Experience one of Metro Detroit's most spectacular processions. A towering, brightly decorated chariot — covered in flowers and colorful fabrics — is pulled through the streets by volunteers and visitors together. It is the centerpiece of the festival and a tradition now celebrated in cities around the world.
Stages across the festival site host performances all afternoon — from classical Indian dance to lively call-and-response chanting (kirtan). Musicians and dancers from Detroit and beyond fill the air with rhythm and melody. Feel free to clap, sing along, or just watch and enjoy.
Dedicated tents and stages keep young visitors engaged all afternoon. Children take part in cultural presentations, arts and crafts, games, and hands-on learning about India's rich heritage — all in a safe, family-friendly setting.
Wander through a vibrant outdoor market with vendors selling traditional Indian clothing, jewelry, crafts, books, incense, and gifts. Whether you want a festival outfit or a unique souvenir, there is plenty to browse.
Admission includes a free vegetarian lunch served until 3:00 PM, prepared by Govinda's Catering Service. Throughout the day, snack tents like Mother Subhadra's Snack Street serve popular Indian street foods — crispy filled pastries (samosas), spiced puffed-rice snacks (bhel puri), and sweet fried desserts (jalebi).
Take a peaceful break from the festival celebrations with moments of reflection, meditation, and spiritual wellness activities. Open to all ages and experience levels, these provide an opportunity to relax, recharge, and connect with the uplifting atmosphere of Rath Yatra.
